Latymer Upper School Head, David Goodhew, said: “We are all immensely proud of the achievements of our students this year whose Sixth Form experience has been unlike any other. Whilst they were not able to sit their examinations this year owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, they studied hard and having been through a rigorous and fair process they have now secured places at top universities here in the UK and abroad, winning places on prestigious courses like the Huntsman and VIPER programmes at UPenn. They’ve also raised money for the NHS and other local charities, helped to deliver food and care packages to the vulnerable, and maintained a positive and purposeful attitude in the face of this pandemic. We celebrate their achievements alongside their qualities of perseverance, resilience, adaptability, good humour and intellectual curiosity that characterises a Latymerian. I am proud that we have been able to support bright young people, from all backgrounds, to realise their potential. Through our Inspiring Minds bursary campaign we are committed to supporting more students, like Oyin and Tianrun, in the future through our bursary programme.”
Amongst this year’s incredible success stories are:
Oyin (who joined the School on a full bursary in Year 7) has just achieved stellar results with top marks across all 4 of her subjects; having been offered places at Cambridge, Princeton and St Andrews she will be going to MIT where she plans to major in Chemistry. Also heading abroad is Ariana who got 2A*s and 2 As and will join the prestigious Huntsman programme at UPenn. She’ll be joined there by 3 fellow Latymerians (a record for the School), Michael, Olivia, and Amelia, who got a place on the illustrious VIPER programme.
Music Scholars Tianrun (who has been at Latymer on a bursary since joining the Prep School) and Nik both got straight A*s and will be going to Cambridge to read Maths. They will be joined at Cambridge by fellow musician extraordinaire, Gabriel, who also got 4 A*s and will be reading music, and outstanding thespian, Matthew, who got 3 A*s and will be studying Psychological & Behavioural Sciences.
School Captains, Charlie and Rosella have capped off an extraordinary year with straight A*s. Rosella will now go to Manchester to read Biology and Mandarin and Charlie will go to Oxford to read Chemistry.
It was a strong year for our scientists. Amelia, Iris, Katie, Laura, Melina and Shahd all achieved straight A*s. Amelia will head to UPenn to join their School of Arts and Science and School of Engineering; Laura will be taking Biology at Oxford, Melina will head to Cambridge to read Natural Sciences and Katie will now take a place to read Medicine at Southampton. Shahd has been awarded an illustrious ‘Presidents Scholarship’ to read Medicine at Imperial.
Emma, our first student to hold all three creative Sixth Form awards – art, music and drama – has won a place at Goldsmiths to read History of Art.
Elite swimmer, Amir achieved two A*s and 2 As and will now go to Loughborough to study Sport and Exercise science.
86% of students who applied to university have secured a place at their first choice. In addition to those holding offers at Oxford and Cambridge, large numbers of Latymerians have had their places confirmed at the UK’s top universities, including Bristol, Durham, Edinburgh, Imperial College, St Andrews and UCL with a wide variety of courses, from Medicine to Music, being taken.
Latymerians continue to enjoy success at top international universities, with the Upper Sixth cohort enrolling at an exciting range of destinations across the globe, including Princeton, Columbia, Yale, MIT, Brown, UC Berkeley, Georgetown and UPenn in the US; Bocconi University in Milan; Sciences Po in France; the University of Toronto in Canada and Trinity College Dublin in Ireland.
Congratulations to all of our students and wishing you all the best for your futures!
