This year’s graduates of Latymer’s Bright Sparks programme have now completed their course and been awarded their diplomas.
Bright Sparks is a free programme for Year 5 students who show exceptional academic potential. Each year, teachers from Latymer’s Maths, English and Science departments run fun and lively sessions for bright and inquisitive children from primary schools across London. The emphasis of the workshops is on mini-projects, creativity and hands-on practical challenges giving the children a fun and interactive experience of secondary school learning, and an introduction to the level of requirements for the 11+ exams set by selective schools like Latymer.
“We developed the Bright Sparks programme for Year 5 students who show exceptional academic potential, are eager to learn and who would consider applying to Latymer Upper School or other selective secondary schools for 11+” say Amanda Scott, Executive Director of the Latymer Foundation which funds the programme thanks to the generosity of a Latymer family. The incredible response to Latymer’s Inspiring Minds Campaign means there are now more bursaries available at Latymer each year. Amanda continues: “We offer one of the UK’s most generous, means-tested bursary schemes because we believe that a Latymer education should be available to all bright young people with ability and potential, whatever their situation is. Currently 1 in 5 of our students benefit from a bursary and we are looking to increase this to 1 in 4 by 2024.”
Latymer Upper School’s Autumn Open Days will take place on Saturday 11th September and Saturday 2nd October 2021 for those who are interested in registering their child to sit the 11+ entrance exam in January 2022.
