The BOUNCE initiative is one aspect of the School’s wellbeing programme. BOUNCE stands for Brain, Optimism, Unwind, Nutrition, Connection and Exercise – common themes in the subject of wellbeing.
Throughout the academic year our tutors deliver wellbeing activities during form time and we use BOUNCE Week to encourage students to focus on their health and wellbeing but also highlight the many facilities and opportunities that are on offer at the School throughout the year for them to enjoy.
Events and activities were put on all over the School site from ergo challenges and cookery demos in the piazza to karaoke in the theatre, and clay play in the art studio. This year Ollie the therapy dog also came to visit students in the library.
“The students have really embraced BOUNCE Week, whether having a go on the ergo challenge, singing their hearts, making clay models or meeting Ollie the therapy dog – they’ve been having fun, and been really supportive of each other, ” said Mr Edwards, Wellbeing coordinator. “The week is an internal open day of everything we offer here to help students with their wellbeing, so there are many different activities happening across the week; each activity is designed to encourage students to try something new, whether its sporty – like ergo, circuits or extra swimming sessions – or more mindful, like clay play in the Art Studios – there really is something for everyone. This year we also used the week to connect with M-Lisada, our charity partner in Uganda, with a fundraising initiative. My thanks to all my colleagues for taking part in the wet sponge challenge. I hope that for our students, they’ve taken part in something this week that has sown the seed of a new habit and maybe even a lifelong passion.”
