Last Half term our Year 11 Latymer Upper School students engaged in this year’s annual World Perspectives Conference.
The theme for the Conference this year was representation. This engaging and thought-provoking event is aimed at helping students understand why representation matters, and how we can all contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.
The day began with a keynote talk from two speakers from Representation Matters, a UK-based charity who work to improve representation for minority groups. The speakers shared their personal experiences and insights into why diverse representation is so vital, and how it impacts identity, opportunity, and fairness in everyday life.
Following this students worked in their World Perspectives class groups on a social action project. Each group focused on researching representation in a specific sector of UK society, such as the arts, healthcare, sports, education, or criminal justice. Students then divided into sub-groups to create infographics, videos, websites, and persuasive letters to help raise awareness about the importance of representation in their assigned sector. These efforts culminated in a final pitch which students presented at the end of the day, sharing their findings with the rest of the year group.
This day helped students develop critical skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and communication, all while encouraging them to consider how they can contribute to a fairer and more inclusive society. This conference was a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved.
