Congratulations to Latymerians – Hugh, Sofia and Thomas (Y13), Quyll (Y12) and Yazhou (Y11)  who excelled in the British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO) – the premier school maths competition with around 1,000 of the best young mathematicians in the country taking part.

Sofia (Y13), Quyll (Y12) and Yazhou (Y11) each earnt distinctions, which puts them among the top 200-300 young mathematicians in the country.

“It has been a couple of years since a Latymerian has achieved a distinction in this competition and this year we were absolutely delighted to have not one but three,” said Mr O’Hara, Latymer Mathematics Teacher.

Quyll did exceptionally well, being in the top 100 performers and qualifying for the follow-up round (BMO2).

The British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO) is organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust. Round 1 is a follow-on round to the Senior Mathematical Challenge. As well as challenging high-scorers from the Senior Mathematical Challenge, the British Mathematical Olympiad is an entry point to the training and selection programme for international competitions.
