At Latymer we have marked National Careers Week 2023 with an exciting schedule of lunchtime talks and evening webinars enjoyed by our students and parents.
Latymer parent, Manish Gajria, Director of Product Management at Meta, came in to speak to our students.
Latymerians – Graham Seel (1968), Peter Kaunders (1965), George Maddocks (2008) & Dr. Jonathan Williams (1979) – took part in a webinar about ‘unexpected career paths’, talking about their experiences in medicine and science on Tuesday evening. A second event, on Thursday night featured Nick De Marco KC (1985), Chloe Mann (2000), Wilkie Morrison (2000) and David Berry (1971), talking about their careers in medicine, law and finance.
We also heard from Lily Rosengard (2013),Global Education Policy & Advocacy Specialist at Plan International, who joined us live from New York to give an online talk for students – both at Latymer & our partner schools – talking about their career to date, as part of our events and activities to mark International Women’s Day.
The events have been organised by Latymer’s Careers Department, which offers students support throughout the year, not only in their decision-making process but also in personal development, ensuring they have the requisite skills to succeed in the globally connected world of work.
“Preparing students for the world beyond the School gates is an important part of the education we offer here” said Mr Couch, Head of Careers. “We are very lucky in having an engaged and supportive community of current and former parents and a global network of nearly 6,000 alumni who volunteer their time and expertise to provide career advise and mentoring as well as networking opportunities.”
“We have had an extraordinary response from our alumni and parents who have been keen to offer their time to our students for careers events, not only during National Careers Week but throughout the year, whether coming in for sector specific workshops – like Laurence Hopkins (Class of 1992), Managing Director of Morgan Stanley, who came in last term with his colleagues to run a CV Workshop, and our Y9 Creative Industries Day, but also at our Careers Fair in February and and our Higher Education Launch in early March.”
